I met someone online in Zamboanga and would like to skip down there for a few days to meet her on my next trip.
1. How safe is it there and what tips would you suggest besides common sense? 2. Where can I take her to get to know her? What is there to do there?
Thanks,
Hoseman

I must say don't go...
Its election time. People get kidnapped just to raise money for the electoral campaign.

Some of mindanao is completely safe........
Cagayan de oro, Butuan city, Davao all very safe places.
Places like Zamboanga and gen san city are fairly safe but in my opinion not as safe as the others I listed.
I would suggest she meet you in say......cagayan de oro. Its not too far by bus from Zamboanga and you can be at ease. Dante is right about it being election time but I would'nt worry too much. There are a lot of expats living in these safer areas.
One thing for sure is stay the hell out of the ARMM "Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao" areas. Dont even venture close.
